Yuba Fly Fishing Weekend

I had a nice Yuba River and pond weekend. Hook a few but lost most of them.

Yuba River
On Saturday I fished a rainy and windy day out on the Yuba. I never have much luck in the rain but I managed to land one nice 17'' trout after fishing a tough day. It fought like an 8# fish just sitting in the current making a few headshakes now and then. Strong and fun fish to land. Definitely one of my better fish out there this year.

Boulder Hopping Son Of A Gun and Yuba Fun

Typical North Fork Pocket Deep Pool

After fishing the Feather a day every week, I felt like I needed a change in scenery. Thus to start my week I fished the North Fork of Feather River. I also had a few things I needed to pick up from Marysville so I spent some time on the Yuba river and at the ponds with my brother on Saturday as well.

Monday Morning Football

A small one?

The Valley Steelhead... here are some of their characteristics:
1. Football Shaped
2. Run around 16" - 24"
3. Weighing 4 - 8 pounds

Catching anything bigger than that I would considered a rare and trophy. I've caught a nice 22'' but I'm a greedy bastard. I know there's a bigger fish out there just waiting for me to land it.

Yuba Goldfields Gill Fry

Didn't take pictures of the fish...
Just some thugs

The weekend was planned to meet in Marysville for my Mom's birthday day. I decided that I wanted to get her some fish for a fish fry and the best place to fish was the Yuba Goldfields. Fly rods and spin rod at hand Manda, Nick, and I set out to catch some panfish for an epic fish fry.

Is It Prime Time?

I recently fished the Feather River for steelhead and didn't have much luck despite waking up at 5am and being the first on the river.

There is quite a bit of pressure throughout the river with salmon fishing still open until the 15th and "prime-time" steelheading throughout the low flow. I talked to the other anglers that were out and they said they weren't doing too well either. The weather has also made it difficult with temperatures in the 90s and high sun no clouds at around 10:00. And I thought summer was over...
I didn't get skunked because of the pike minnows but I didn't get any steelhead.
